Mary Anne is the Parish & Community Engagement Coordinator at Catholic Charities of Southwest Ohio (CCSWO)

It was an evening filled with laughter, dancing, good food, and great company on Saturday, May 17, at the 21st annual Music for the Missions fundraiser, put on by the Covina Mission Center.

Thank you to all of our wonderful supporters who showed up ready to celebrate. Through your wonderful generosity, we raised more than $25,000 to support our missions in Africa.

Grupo Folklorico Antequera and Internacional Mariachi Rosales put on dazzling performances, keeping us entertained all evening.

A heartfelt thank you to Holy Name of Mary Parish in San Dimas, California, for hosting us this year.

Money raised during the event will help these three mission projects:

Uganda — Lodonga Health Centre IV Serving All in Need: Located in Northern Uganda, the Lodonga Health Centre is in desperate need of food, bedding, and medical treatment to support the sick and elderly. The Sisters of the Sacred Heart, founded by Comboni Missionary Bishop Sixtus Mazzoldi in 1954, work in the Health Center, caring for the spiritual and physical needs of the patients. This project will be completed with a team spirit; the medical professionals will treat the sick, the sisters will provide food and other items, and counselors will help with mental health and social support.

Eritrea — Food Emergency and Health Initiatives at College: At Comboni College in Asmara, Eritrea, and the seminary in Dekemhare, the Comboni Missionaries continue a proud tradition of helping young men access education and missionary vocation training. The cost of running the minor seminary has become very high, as we ensure food, water and proper sanitation for the young men. Lack of food is one of the biggest problems in the country. When we can provide the students with food, they are better able to concentrate on their schoolwork and see improvements in their psychological wellbeing.

Togo — Health Centre: The main objective of this center is to provide a safe and welcoming environment to those who need care. This includes mothers and their newborns. This clinic serves many local villages in the area. They are working to improve their space and ensure the clinic is as secure, safe, and clean.
